Stephen Aryan was born in Iran, and raised in Whitley Bay, on the north east coast of the UK. He is the author of the critically acclaimed Quest for Heroes duology as well as the Age of Darkness and Age of Dread trilogies. His debut, Battlemage, was a finalist for the David Gemmell Morningstar Award, and won the inaugural Hellfest Inferno Award. He has previously written for Tor.com.

4.  A book that you love and wish that you yourself had written.

Dune by Frank Herbert

5. What's one book, which you read as a child or a young adult, that holds a special place in your heart?

Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. It was the start of realising what fantasy could be. Weis and Hickman had a big influence on me as a younger reader.

6. And speaking of that, what's your latest book, and why is it awesome?

The Judas Blossom, is book 1 of a new trilogy called, The Nightingale and the Falcon. It's set in 13th century Persia and it is historical fantasy. It's set in an era when the Mongol Empire covered a massive portion of the world and their goal was to conquer the rest. The story is about a rebellion in Persia, one of many nations that have already been conquered by the Mongols. It's about fighting back against a more power enemy and finding a way to tear it apart from the inside.
